In walks JID straight from the house that J Cole built DREAMVILLE. Cole hasn’t had a misstep yet with the acts signed to his label. Ari Lenox, Earthgang and Now JID. Destin Choice Route was born in Atlanta, Georgia. The youngest of seven children, he adopted the moniker JID from his grandmother saying he acted JITTERY as a child . He grew up listening to old head music like EWF and SLY and the Family Stone. JID had dreams of the NFL while attending Stephenson High School playing defensive back. During his senior year he dislocated his hip and was down for a min. But he still received an athletic scholarship to play at Hampton University based in Hampton, Virgina. After red shirting his first year of eligibility he played two seasons before he was kicked off the team for skipping practices.

During his time at HU he was roommates with label mates Doctor Dot and Johnny Venus aka Earthgang who are also from Atlanta. My story I became of JID while watching J Cole’s show on Netflix years ago the place he introduced the world to his artist and we got a inside look at his Dreamville Roster and they have all popped since then and it’s crazy how ge also mentioned my hometown of Mobile, Alabama in a verse and I been a fan since. Now let’s talk about GOD DOES LIKES UGLY !

JID has undeniably solidified his place in the hip-hop landscape with his latest album, which continues to showcase his lyrical prowess and unique sound. Released amidst great anticipation, this project marks another significant step in JID's artistic evolution, building upon the success of his previous work while pushing boundaries in innovative ways.
From the opening track, it’s clear that JID has come to make a statement. His intricate wordplay and rapid-fire delivery immediately draw listeners in, setting the tone for an album that’s both introspective and bold. With production that blends various genres, the beats are as dynamic as JID’s flow, offering a rich auditory experience that complements his storytelling.
Thematically, the album explores a range of topics, from personal struggles and triumphs to broader social issues. JID's ability to weave personal narratives with universal themes is one of the album's standout features. In the standout track featuring Ciera and EarthGang, JID showcases his remarkable versatility by seamlessly shifting his rhythm and flow to match the vibrant energy of the song. The collaboration highlights the diverse experiences of each artist as they reflect on their journeys through different neighborhoods of Atlanta, weaving in personal anecdotes about roller skating in local rinks. JID's dynamic delivery contrasts with Ciera's smooth vocals, creating a captivating interplay that captures the essence of their shared memories. Meanwhile, EarthGang adds their unique flavor, enriching the narrative with their distinct perspectives. They also touch on the dangers of navigating between the zones or neighborhoods in the city. This celebration of community and the cultural significance of roller skating in Atlanta serves as a backdrop for the artists to explore themes of unity and nostalgia, all while demonstrating their individual styles and adaptability within a cohesive track.
Musically, the production is top-notch, with a mix of soulful samples, hard-hitting drums, and experimental sounds. JID’s choice of beats reflects his versatility, seamlessly transitioning between laid-back tracks and more aggressive anthems. The instrumentation often complements the lyrical content, with certain songs building tension and release that mirrors the themes JID explores.
One of the strongest aspects of the album is its pacing. JID expertly balances introspective tracks with high-energy bangers, ensuring that listeners remain engaged throughout. The transitions between songs feel natural, creating a cohesive listening experience that encourages replayability.
While the album boasts many strengths, there are moments where some tracks may feel slightly less impactful than others. However, this doesn’t detract significantly from the overall quality. Instead, it highlights JID’s ambitious nature, as he experiments with different sounds and styles, pushing himself as an artist.
In conclusion, JID's latest album is a testament to his growth as a musician and storyteller. It blends personal reflection with social commentary, all while showcasing his exceptional lyrical skills and unique sound. This project not only cements JID's status in hip-hop but also leaves listeners eager for what he will do next.
With this release, JID challenges the status quo and sets a high bar for his contemporaries. As fans continue to dissect the album and share their thoughts, it’s clear that JID has delivered a powerful body of work that deserves recognition.
